By installing or using HalalScan.AI ("the app"), you agree to these terms.

1. What HalalScan.AI is

HalalScan.AI is an informational tool that uses AI (Anthropic Claude) and the Open Food Facts database to assess whether product ingredients are likely halal according to the madhhab (Islamic school of jurisprudence) you select. Verdicts are best-effort guidance, not religious rulings (fatwa). Always consult a qualified scholar for definitive religious decisions, and read the physical product label before consuming anything you have a dietary restriction against.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own. You may not reverse-engineer, resell, or redistribute the app.

3. Acceptable use

• You will not abuse the app or attempt to bypass rate limits.
• You will not submit unlawful, harmful, or someone else's private content for scanning.
• You will not use the app to harass, defame, or discriminate against any person or group.

4. Subscriptions and purchases

• Paid plans are sold and billed by Apple via the App Store. Apple's standard subscription terms apply.
• Free users get a limited number of AI scans per rolling 7-day window. The exact limit may change.
• Refunds are handled by Apple per its policies.

5. AI accuracy disclaimer

Verdicts are generated by AI from ingredient text. The AI can make mistakes — including but not limited to misreading a label photo, missing a hidden ingredient, or applying the wrong rule. Never rely on HalalScan.AI alone if a mistake could cause religious harm. We provide the verdicts "as is", with no warranty.

6. Third-party services

The app relies on Anthropic Claude, Open Food Facts, and Apple's App Store. Their terms govern your use of those services through the app.

7. Termination

We may suspend or revoke your access if you violate these terms. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app — including any consequence of relying on an AI verdict.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
